Industrial Development Councils Sign Partnership With MAGZI
A support agreement was signed between the Industrial Zones and Management authority and the United Cities and Councils of Cameroon in Yaounde on June 3, 2025.
The Industrial Zones and Management Authority (MAGZI) and the United Cities and Councils of Cameroon (UCCC) signed a new industrial part-nership in Yaounde on June 3, 2025. The signing took place on the side-lines of the Economic Days of Councils (JEICOM 25) unfolding at the Yaounde Conference Centre from June 2 to 4, 2025. The ceremony brought together repre-sentatives from several Councils across the country for discussions under the theme: “Crea-tion of zones for industrial activities by councils: The role and mission of the Industrial Zones and Management Authority.” The agreement stems from the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Law of July 25, 2023 which grants local Councils the legal authority to engage in such partner-ships for developmental projects. This landmark legal framework has opened the door for Councils to play a more direct role in Cameroon’s industrial expansion.
During the session, MAGZI held practical works-hops with Mayors and Council representatives, with development experts, guiding them through the stages of project development. From iden-tifying viable ideas and suitable land to conduc-ting market research, attracting funding, and launching construction. Land acquisition and financial limitations were highlighted as common challenges, and MAGZI responded by presenting multiple land appropriation and financing models adapted to local realities. MAGZI’s Director Ge-neral, Christol Georges Manon, emphasized that the institution’s doors are now open to all coun-cils. “From the signing of this agreement, all Councils can approach us directly. We are ready to support their projects to own and develop industrial zones,” he said.
Echoing this enthusiasm, the President of the United Cities and Councils of Cameroon, Augustin Tamba welcomed the partnership, calling it a timely solution to one of the most persistent problems Councils face. “This will go a long way in helping solve the financial issues most Councils are dealing with. It is essential for such initiatives to keep sprouting,” he said. Both parties acknowledged that the waters have been tested and it is certain that councils are eager to carry out industrial development projects, they promised further initiatives of this kind to reach all 360 councils nationwide.
