Prof. Fru Angwafo III Launches Site Installation for North Western Mutan Market Project in Bamenda III
The President of the North West Regional Executive Council (NWRA), Prof. Fru Angwafo III, who doubles as project owner, led a site installation visit on October 22, 2025, marking the formal start of works for the North Western Mutan Market in Bamenda III. The exercise, held at the Industrial Zones Development and Management Authority (MAGZI) in Nkwen, brought together the NWRA contract manager, Alombah Anderson Akondi, state engineers and implementing partners.
The project, financed under the PROLOG programme with World Bank backing, aims to deliver a modern market facility to serve the population of the North West Region and neighbouring areas. The contract was awarded to Dreamland Connect, with a contractor start-up period tied to a 120-calendar-day completion window from notification of the start-up service order.
Officials at the site described the Mutan Market as a central node in a wider commercial cluster. Planned complementary infrastructure includes an external customs clearance warehouse and precinct, and a food transformation unit intended to expand value-chain activity and formalise market operations. NWRA sources said these additional facilities are designed to increase revenue generation, improve food safety, and reduce post-harvest losses for local producers and traders.
The Project owner, Prof. Fru Angwafo III stressed that, the current phase focuses on contractor mobilisation, site demarcation, and the establishment of logistics and safety protocols. Engineers on site briefed the NWRA delegation on preliminary geotechnical reads, drainage planning and access routes linking the market to existing industrial zones.
NWRA reiterated its commitment to oversight and to meeting the contractual timeline while coordinating with PROLOG implementing units and the World Bank to resolve bottlenecks quickly.
